America’s founding principles: fairness and respect for authority and rules

From the New York State Department of Education’s Common Core Standards 2014-2015 for social studies in the 2nd Grade:

The United States was founded on
democratic principles (dignity for all,
equality, fairness, respect for authority
and rules.
Government is established to protect the
rights of citizens, promote fairness, and
keep people safe.
